On Tuesday, July 22, 2025, ARM Burundi took a significant step in its humanitarian commitment by visiting the NEZERWA Center, an orphanage located in Carama in the Ntahangwa commune of Bujumbura. This evaluation visit, led by the National Director alongside the Projects Coordinator, is part of the organization’s strategy to diversify its interventions and provide tangible support to institutions caring for vulnerable children.
The NEZERWA Center shelters 40 children in an environment where innocence and resilience coexist. These young boys and girls, ranging in age from 2 to 22 years old, include a newborn of just 4 months, symbolizing both the fragility of abandoned childhood and hope for a better future. This broad age range reflects the diverse needs of the establishment, from caring for infants to supporting young adults towards independence and ensuring children’s access to education.
The warm welcome from the children immediately created an atmosphere of shared emotion. A guided tour of the facilities, led by the center’s manager, Madame Capitoline—herself a former resident of the orphanage—revealed an extraordinary personal journey that embodies the transformative mission of NEZERWA after the death of its founder in 2006. Her heartfelt testimony of resilience and success deeply touched the visitors, illustrating the lasting impact of compassionate care.
This discovery enabled ARM Burundi representatives to understand the complexity of the needs and the urgency of structured support. The organization, committed to a methodical approach, systematically conducts such assessments before formalizing any partnerships, favoring transparency and prioritizing the beneficiaries at the center.
This promising initiative could soon materialize into a partnership aimed at alleviating the center’s nutritional needs. By expanding its scope to child protection, ARM Burundi reaffirms its commitment to building a better future for Burundi, once again demonstrating its unwavering dedication to the most vulnerable populations.
