The “GITEGA street child” project

began its activities in April 2011 in Gitega with funding from “Emerge Proverty Free”. He began by welcoming children on the street by receiving them in a transitional reception center. The children were housed, fed, educated and the older ones learned trades. The project has already taken care of 160 children, including 60 girls under 17 years old. With the crisis of 2015, the project changed its modus operandi. ARM Burundi had to remove all these children from the center. The supervisors looked for host families to take care of destitute children. Fortunately, all these children have been reintegrated and continue to be monitored and supervised by ARM. CC4 Africa-Canada via ARM Congo took over by continuing to support and monitor these children. ARM-Burundi also uses contributions from other income-generating projects to continue caring for these destitute children.

ARM continued educational monitoring at home and at school, it provides support for health care, school materials, school fees, uniforms, as well as other basic needs such as shoes, food (corn flour), etc.
